Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students at Teralba Public School develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through a wide range of debating and public speaking opportunities. We proudly support two active debating teams, regular workshops and many chances for students to speak confidently in front of others. Our commitment to developing strong communicators is reflected in achievements such as having a finalist in the Multicultural Public Speaking competition. These experiences help students build confidence, think critically and participate in local and state events.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs give students wonderful opportunities to be creative and express themselves. At Teralba Public School, students can participate in choir, HPGE drama groups, Star Struck performances and our annual Community Carols event. Through art activities and performance opportunities, students build confidence, develop their talents and enjoy being part of our vibrant creative arts community.
Trips and excursions
At Teralba Public School, our students enjoy meaningful opportunities to explore, learn and experience new things beyond the classroom. These excursions help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the wider world. Our senior students take part in a special bi-annual trip to Canberra, while the whole school enjoys major excursions such as visiting the Hunter Valley Zoo, attending the movies and celebrating with our whole-school rewards day at Speers Point Park. Students also take part in a range of exciting incursions and educational outings, including visits to the Sydney Aquarium and other hands-on learning experiences that enrich their understanding and spark curiosity.
Science and technology
Our students enjoy a wide range of engaging science and technology experiences. These activities take place both in our classrooms and through our strong partnership with Lake Macquarie High School. From hands-on experiments to exciting STEM challenges, students have opportunities to explore, create and problem-solve as they build their skills and curiosity about the world around them.
Sport
Sport is an exciting and valued part of school life at Teralba Public School. Students enjoy a wide range of activities, from PSSA State competitions to netball, soccer, basketball, touch football and gala days. We also welcome visits from local teams like the Newcastle Jets and Knights, which inspire our young athletes. Within school, students take part in fun intra-school events such as Oz-tag and netball, helping them stay active, build confidence and enjoy friendly competition.
